In the undergraduate competition, we won the first place prize of $10,000 for our marketing plan focused on IBM’s Smarter Planet initiative. The challenge was to evaluate the market conditions, dynamics and environmental factors IBM should consider in order to ensure the success of the program. We were the only all-girl team at the conference, and thus received he nickname ‘Team Powderpuff’. So much for business being male-dominated :)
Others teams included Emory University, University of Maryland, West Point, University of Toronto and Wake Forest University.
I will be spending the weekend locked up in a 5′ x 8′ room with 3 other people, with no sleep for 36 hrs, working on a marketing strategy case for IBM, in the hopes of winning the $10k grand prize. Sounds a bit crazy but that’s just how I roll. Follow it at http://www.marketingsummitlive.com/
I love Apple stuff. It’s all so clean and fresh, perfect lines, fun commercials. And they just seem to always be getting better (iTunes, iPod, iPhone, Macbook Air). Until now.
When I first heard rumors of an Apple tablet PC I thought it would actually be a full-working computer, not a glorified iPhone. On top of that, there’s no way to even pretend it’s a computer: no multi-tasking functionality, no USB, no CD/DVD drive, and no camera. The no camera part really annoyed me since I was imagining video-conferencing capabilities (like in Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century style, for those who grew up watching Disney). The LED-backlit LCD screen makes it an unlikely threat to the Kindle or Nook’s eye-pleasing E-ink screen for serious book readers. So really, it’s just a pretty touchscreen netbook.
One of my friend’s facebook status pretty much summed up my sentiment: “Developers at Apple have drank way too much of their own Kool-Aid.”
It’s been done. I signed. I’m not as concern-free as I thought I would be, but at least I no longer have to worry about the what-if-I-never-get-a-job-i-hate-this-stupid-recession feeling anymore. So now what? The only certainty is that I will eventually have to buy a car and learn how to drive again (caution to those nearby).
Tech-giant Microsoft is making it their mission to simplify our lives. Live Mesh is a system to synchronize your desktop, laptop, mobile phone, and even your Mac so you can access the latest version of your files whenever you need them. It’s still in the beta version, but it’s a good step to reach cloud-computing soon. Considering I’m currently typing this using the third computer I’ve had in my college career, stuff like this will prevent me from losing docs, pics, and music.
Winter break is coming to an end, which means I will soon be returning to the freezing Philadelphia weather. I’m not a fan of chilly winter weather, but I do enjoy the fashion. I see myself falling into an Edie Sedgwick vibe with black tights and leggings until spring arrives. Best known for being Andy Warhol’s muse back in 60s, Edie is the fashion icon of black tights, chandelier earrings, and thick eyeliner. Her unique style and early death immortalized her as the 60s glamorous it-girl.
When not working on some more outrageous music videos or rocking it on tour, Lady Gaga will take on the role of creative director of Polaroid Imaging Products. Can Gaga save the company that has filed Chapter 11 (twice)?
